Notice any differences?  Hopefully you can see that when a message is powerful and provokes a positive change the rest of the world can benefit.  In this case, the U.S. version fell short in that it did not provide educational materials to those that the child approached.  The Thai version (original) was created by their public health office and had a plan in place for when the ad started to run, where the U.S. video has been created by multiple individuals and organizations but lacking in education and preparedness for action.

Your assignment this week is about ethical dilemmas in health education.  As health educators striving towards multicultural competency, we are faced with daily examples of potential ethical dilemmas when dealing with members of different cultural backgrounds.  It is our duty to uphold protect the integrity of our profession and to advocate for the ethical treatment of all we serve.  To help health educators in this endeavor the NCHEC created the Health Education Code of Ethics which promotes the highest standards of conduct in the profession, they are as follows:

· Article I: Responsibility to the Public

· Article II: Responsibility to the Profession

· Article III: Responsibility to Employers

· Article IV: Responsibility in the Delivery of Health Education

· Article V: Responsibility in Research and Evaluation

· Article VI: Responsibility in Professional Preparation

You are encouraged to visit http://www.nchec.org/credentialing/ethics/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. to review the articles in more detail.  Can you think of examples where you have seen these articles in practice?  How have you utilized them in your careers?  Can you identify areas in which you need to improve on any of the articles listed?

Please note that ethical and legal issues are different; therefore, each should be addressed separately before making any possible connections between the two
